TERMS & CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

Last Updated: June 2026

Welcome to the RADLAB Open Science project. By submitting your application to become a RADLAB Test Pilot, you (the “Participant”) agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions of Participation. Please read them carefully before applying.

1. Scope of the Project & Independence

  • 1.1. RADLAB Ltd. (RADLAB) operates as an independent research platform dedicated to the scientific, objective, and open-source analysis of photographic emulsions and chemistry.

  • 1.2. This project is entirely self-funded and independent. RADLAB Ltd. is not sponsored, endorsed, or paid by any film manufacturer or brand to alter, bias, or alter research outcomes. All data collected is aimed at establishing objective truth, based on scientific examinations under strict control.

2. Eligibility & Equipment Requirements

  • 2.1. Participants must be of legal age in their country of residence at the time of application.

  • 2.2. Participants must provide their own photographic equipment (manual or automatic). By applying, the Participant guarantees that their gear is trusted, mechanically sound, and in perfect working condition to prevent external mechanical variables from corrupting the research data.

3. Technical Protocol, Costs & Deadlines

  • 3.1. Selected Test Pilots will be supplied with one (1) roll of black-and-white photographic film and professional laboratory development free of charge by RADLAB.

  • 3.2. Shipping Costs: All shipping costs—including sending the exposed film to the RADLAB facilities and the return shipping of the physical negatives back to the Participant—are the sole financial responsibility of the Participant.

  • 3.3. Mandatory Processing: The Participant must send the exposed film back to the RADLAB laboratory for development. Processing the film at any other laboratory, or developing it at home, is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate disqualification from the project. In the event of an unauthorized development violation, the Participant is required to purchase and ship a fresh, unexposed roll of the exact same film model to RADLAB at their own expense as compensation for the lost research material.

  • 3.4. The Participant agrees to strictly follow the specific technical parameters, exposure rules, and subject guidelines (the “Technical Protocol”) provided by RADLAB for that specific research assignment.

  • 3.5. The Participant agrees to shoot and return the exposed film roll to RADLAB within the designated deadline specified in the research briefing. Failure to meet the deadline without prior communication will result in disqualification from current and future research assignments.

4. Intellectual Property, Custom Reports, & Copyright License

  • 4.1. Negative Ownership: The physical negatives shot by the Participant remain the absolute intellectual property and physical property of the Participant. RADLAB will safely return the physical negatives to the Participant after processing and analysis, subject to section 3.2.

  • 4.2. Custom Lab Report: Upon completion of the analysis, RADLAB will provide the Participant with a custom Technical Lab Report detailing the sensitometric performance of their specific roll.

  • 4.3. Grant of License: Because this is an Open Science initiative, the Participant grants RADLAB Ltd. a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to digitize, display, publish, reproduce, and include the resulting images and data in the RADLAB Deep Knowledge Archive, online platforms, exhibitions, and educational print/digital publications.

  • 4.4. Credit: RADLAB guarantees that the Participant will always be fully credited as the author and co-author of the research wherever their images are displayed. Your visual language will act as direct evidence to educate the community.

5. Processing & Sensitometric Analysis

  • 5.1. All returned film rolls will be developed at RADLAB under strict, calibrated laboratory conditions.

  • 5.2. RADLAB will conduct a precise sensitometric analysis of the negatives. Raw data, numbers, and curves generated from this analysis will be open-sourced to the public in alignment with our values of objectivity, precision, and reproducibility.

6. Film Damage, Negligence & Reshooting

  • 6.1. If the Participant damages, ruins, or loses the provided film roll due to their own error, faulty equipment, light leaks, or negligent operation, the Participant must notify RADLAB immediately.

  • 6.2. In the case of such damage or loss, the Participant is required to purchase an identical roll of the exact same film model at their own expense and complete the assigned research protocol within the agreed deadline.

7. Limitation of Liability

  • 7.1. RADLAB Ltd. handles all Participant film with the utmost professional care. However, in the unlikely event of laboratory equipment failure, chemistry malfunction, or loss/damage caused directly by RADLAB during transit or processing, RADLAB liability is strictly limited to replacing the raw roll of film. RADLAB is not liable for any lost time, travel expenses, or perceived artistic value.

8. Database Retention & Future Contact

  • 8.1. Submission of an application does not guarantee selection for the immediate or current film review project.

  • 8.2. RADLAB will securely maintain your application details in our Test Pilot database. By applying, you agree that we may contact you for future, different research assignments that match your gear profile, without requiring you to submit a second application form. You may request to be removed from this database at any time by contacting us.

9. Agreement & Acceptance

  • 9.1. By clicking “Apply,” submitting the application form, or participating in the RADLAB research projects, the Participant confirms that they have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms and Conditions.
